Yuanlu Community Center: A Modern Architectural Marvel

Reinterpreting Aesthetics through Authenticity and Innovation

The Yuanlu Community Center, located next to Longxing Ancient Town, is a trio of buildings of varying sizes, harmoniously placed on a hillside. The design uses exposed Glulam structures as a key visual element, creating a distinct aesthetic that is both honest and beautiful. The buildings house an exhibition hall, a swimming pool, and a café, each designed with different sizes according to their functions. The result is a series of sequential courtyard spaces that offer a unique and engaging user experience.

The design process involved a seamless integration of design and construction, employing the BIM system for overall project control. Each structural component was optimized through programming design, manufactured by CNC machines, and installed on-site. The use of digital concepts and advanced technologies ensured precision and efficiency, with the wooden structure to the roof structure completion taking only 25 days.

The design team faced several challenges during the construction process due to the non-traditional “door” structure form. The hoisting of irregular single trusses required special customization, and the site shape led to a lower hoisting elevation than the construction elevation. Additionally, the novel design of the wooden column foot connection increased the construction difficulty of the wood structure. However, through innovative solutions and meticulous execution, the team successfully overcame these challenges.

The Yuanlu Community Center is a shining example of how modern architectural aesthetics can be reinterpreted through authenticity and innovation. The integrity of the building, from inside to outside, resonates with the beauty of morality and integrity. As the light changes, the building exhibits a sense of elegance and a complicated, yet captivating visual effect.
